Commentary
The Ugric etymology is not listed in MSzFE.
UEW assumes that the Proto-Ugric word is a derivative; no trace of the underived stem is found in Hungarian or Khanty and the function of the suffix *-rV remains unclear. The idea that Hungarian ígér would be derived from ige 'word' is refuted by UEW and EWUng.
The background of the Hungarian long vowel í remains unclear: this would be an irregular reflex of Proto-Ugric *e that is reconstructed by the UEW. The Proto-Ugric etymology cannot be considered certain.
