An interesting additional cognate for Hungarian–Mansi *aj(V)-tta- 'to open' could be Selkup -a/ä in māta, matä 'door' (a compound with māt 'kota'), Kamass ājə 'door'. They've been treated in older references as irregular reflexes of Proto-Samoyedic *öə 'door', but as per Katz (1987, Zur Phonologie des Motorisch-Karagassich-Taigischen), they would more regularly continue a different PSmy form *ajə. If plain *ajV- was an intransitive verb 'to become open, be opened', 'aueta' (from which Mansi 'to become loose' could derive by semantic shift), then the PSmy form is probably some form of derivative as well, 'that which is opened'. Details to be determined; retained *a seems to suggest that this was in pre-Samoyedic a closed syllable, say *ajjV. --J. Pystynen (lähetä viesti) 1. toukokuuta 2023 kello 19.09 (EEST)

On the other hand, short *a in Mansi looks difficult (seems to suggest Proto-Uralic *u, not *a). --J. Pystynen (lähetä viesti) 1. toukokuuta 2023 kello 19.22 (EEST)
