Commentary
The word-internal consonants (Hu g < ? *ŋk and Ob-Ugric *γ < ?) show an irregular correspondence, and the word cannot be regularly reconstructed to Proto-Ugric (cf. other equestrian vocabulary).
Conclusion
The Ugric etymology is irregular. Possible substrate loans.
