Commentary
The reconstruction of the Proto-Ugric vowel remains completely uncertain in UEW's presentation. Hungarian a does not fit the Ob-Ugric vowels (Khanty V u, DN o, Mansi So o) regularly. Honti (2013) supports the etymology and discusses the word in the context of the reconstruction and development of *lk clusters.
The words for this techincal term in Khanty, Mansi and Hungarian can well be indpendent loans from the same source.
