Mansi: East (KM) säjγ-, (KU) säjγ- 'sich drehen, rollen, kreisen, herumgehen, schwindeln (der Kopf)'

Commentary

The suggested Ugric etymology is problematic, as the vowel-correspondences are completely unclear. Even UEW notes that the correspondences are irregular even within Khanty. UEW suggests that *j might have influenced the vowel-developments, but such a claim would need more detailed argumentation and parallel developments. It is also unclear whether a reflex of *j should be visible in Hungarian szédül.

Conclusion

Due to prolems with vowel-correspondences, the Ugric etymology cannot be accepted.
