Commentary
The Ugric etymology seems probbable. In the vowel-reconstructions of Aikio (2013 handout) and Zhivlov (2014: 129, 139–141), the reflexes of Proto-Uralic *o-i stems show *a in Proto-Khanty. Also Hungarian á could point to PU/PUg *o, so based on these reflexes, Proto-Ugric *sorə could be reconstructed. However, Mansi *a does not regularly fit Proto-Khanty *a as a reflex of either *a or *o. It is uncertain whether the vocalism of all the Ugric cognates can be derived from one source regularly.
It remains uncertain what should exactly be reconstructed as the meaning of the Ugric word, but 'shin' reconstructed by UEW is a good possibility.
Conclusion
Due to uncertainties concerning the vocalism, the reconstruction of a Proto-Ugric word remains uncertain.
