Mansi: South (TJ) šōm-, East (KU) šūm-, West (P) šūm- 'galoppieren', North (N) sūli̊nt- 'springen'
Commentary
UEW's etymology involves phonological problems. It is noted that the word-internal consonants reflect different developments of Proto-Ugric *ŋ: this is a problematic notion, especially as the complete loss of *ŋ in Mansi would be irregular, and the different developments in any case show that no Proto-Ugric form can be reconstructed. It is also uncertain whether North Mansi sūli̊nt- is related to the words listed from the other dialect groups.
Conclusion
UEW's Proto-Ugric etymology cannot be correct due to problems with phonological developments.
