Commentary

It is difficult to reconstruct the original vowel in Hungarian but if the e in reá is secondary, we could probably reconstruct Proto-Ugric *raŋə that would fit both the Hungarian and Mansi evidence. Hungarian jt could be regularly explained from *γt but from *ŋt we would explain *lt (see Aikio 2018: 85-88); however, the exact conditions for the development of *ŋ in Ugric are unclear (cf. Zhivlov's 2015 remarks on the development of *ŋ in Ugric).

Conclusion

The Proto-Ugric etymology seems possible but the different development of *ŋ in Hungarian and Mansi causes some problems.
