Commentary

Despite the limited distribution of the word in Mansi, a Proto-Ugric form *külVćV can be formally reconstructed: both Hu ü and North Mansi o can be derived from Proto-Ugric *ü regularly. WOT reconstructs PUg *ö, but it is unclear why this should be the case.

UEW considers *ćV a possible derivational suffix, but also mentions that thrisyllabic stems might have been possible in Proto-Ugric already. It is difficult to consider this word a derivative, as no further etymology is known.
