Commentary
UEW considers the etymology uncertain because of the poor attestation of the word in Mansi (only found in one dialect) and because the Hungarian word ólom might be somehow related to ón 'Zinn' (this word has a possible Uralic etymology but the issue requires more research). The same arguments are repeated by EWUng.
The possibility to reconstruct a Proto-Ugric word seems unlikely because of the limited attestation of the Mansi word, and Hungarian ó is in any case not the expected reflex of any Proto-Ugric/Proto-Uralic phoneme. UEW argues that the long vowel is due to influence from ón but this issue remains controversial until the precise connection between ólom and ón is settled. The word ólom has in any case little value in the discussion of Hungarian historical phonology.
Conclusion
The Proto-Ugric background of ólom is highly doubtful.
